Where Tradition Meets Modern Living

HandWerk Schweiz was founded in 2018 by a small group of artisans who shared a common concern: the disappearance of traditional handcraft skills in an increasingly automated world.

What began as informal gatherings in a small workshop in Zürich has grown into a network of twelve skilled craftspeople, each specialising in a different discipline yet united by a shared philosophy.

We believe that handmade objects carry an energy that mass-produced items simply cannot replicate. The slight irregularities, the warmth of natural materials, the hours of focused attention—these elements combine to create pieces that become meaningful parts of people's lives.

Our Guiding Principles

These values shape every piece we create and every relationship we build.

Material Integrity

We source materials responsibly, favouring local suppliers and sustainable practices. Every piece of wood, hide, or fibre has a traceable origin.

Skill Preservation

Traditional techniques are passed down through mentorship. We actively train apprentices to ensure these crafts continue for generations.

Client Collaboration

Every commission begins with a conversation. We listen deeply to understand not just what you want, but why you want it.

The Workshop

Our main workshop is located in an old industrial building in Zürich-West, where high ceilings and large windows provide natural light and space for our artisans to work.

Each craftsperson maintains their own dedicated area, equipped with both traditional hand tools and carefully selected modern equipment that enhances rather than replaces skilled handwork.

Clients are welcome to visit by appointment to see their commissions in progress and to experience the atmosphere of a working craft studio.

  • 1,200 square metres of workshop space
  • Dedicated areas for each craft discipline
  • Material storage with climate control
  • Client meeting and display room
